How are you guys spending your day on this somber of days?
I will be performing with my philharmonic our opening night American Spirit concert with a tribute to New York and other patriotic pieces. We have an outstanding conductor and a great group of amazing musicians.

I spent it in churhc, the beach and reflecting on those we lost, and how things might have been had our world leaders reacted to the tragedy in a different way.

Aww that is great! Well my philharmonic was outstanding. Huge crowd 2000 people totally sold out place. Couldn't have been better.

Well I'm glad. Sounds like a very nice turn out. It's nice to see "healthy" patriotism.

i went to church, and took a more positive spin on it. did you know that 911 is a day to honor all first responders? it's been around a lot longer than the tragedy. so I thanked all my family members who are firefighters etc for takin good care of us. Honestly I did try to watch some tv, but it wass to real. For those who don't know, I live in the DC area. my son and husband both lost friends in the pentagon. i still think the best program on the day is inside 911 which was done by nat geo. honestly i did get awfully sick of comentators talking about how they felt. why am i supposed to care about some over paid news purveyor's opinion emotions or view? i'd much rather know how the families are doing.

I really didn't do anything yesterday. Really, I did not want to watch anything on the subject on TV because the whole topic makes me feel sad, not patriotic. I also did not feel very obligated or motivated enough to post some quote, slogan, link, video, or song to Facebook or Twitter because I felt most people probably did it because they thought they were somehow required to. I think it's what's in my head and my heart that matter most, not what I display for all to see, so why make a circus out of patriotism just because it is the anniversary of a tragedy? Now, what everyone else chooses to do or not do is their own business, and I hope people acted out of genuine feeling, not just herd mentality and groupthink.

Problem is that to be an American anymore, and yes this is coming from someone born in this country, it seems you almost HAVE to subscribe to some sort of groupthink anymore. Synical? yes probably, but it's just what I've observed in recent years. And I don't just mean in regard to the business of 9'11.

Oh, I'm also a cynic, but I guess I'm also ornary enough to at least not intentionally get sucked in. I mean, I understood there was a certain social pressure to do something vaguely patriotic but I just wasn't interested and really haven't ever been. I do not hate America or dishonor the events, but I've just never been one to wear the flag on his sleeve, so to speak.

You guys have great points. As my conductor told us, its a day to just reflect and remember, and just bring us all together. He wanted us all to make the audience smile again and give them something positive to look back on on that day.

i observed it because i know people who suffered greatly and i wanted to homor the memories. it had nothing to do with groupthink. i am a lot of things but a sheep ain't one of them dudes.

I'll probably be seen as one of the cynics here, but so be it. I'm proud to say I didn't do anything on september 11th that I wouldn't do on any other day. sure it's sad, but ya know what? life goes on.
also, I don't agree with people who take the avenue of, "isn't it great how events like september 11th bring society together"?
no, actually, it isn't. if people can't do that out of the goodness of their hearts cause it's the right thing, they shouldn't act like they all of a sudden care if/when events like these take place.

nothing, it was just another normal day.

Yes, indeed it is sad, but I don't see any need to celbrate it, it's a tragedy, I mean we don't celebrate 12-7 now do we?
